Alexandro Bernabei signs for Celtic as Lanus announce left-back transfer

Lanus have announced Alexandro Bernabei has signed for Celtic as the Premiership champions seal a £3.75m deal.

The Argentina youth international becomes the first from his nation to wear the famous Hoops and will compete with Greg Taylor for a starting berth at left back. The 21-year-old has been capped at U19 level by his country and his rampaging showings at club level brought him to the attention of the Premiership champions.

His arrival comes after Cameron Carter Vickers penned a long-term following his rousing Celtic loan spells en route to Premiership glory. Benjamin Siegrist has also joined this summer. Bernabei's Lanus career ended with a red card for a headbutt but he will be fondly remembered on the whole for his eye-catching displays. He fits the Ange Postecoglou way as he specialises in getting forward and helping in attacking areas, coupled with his defensive sensibilities.

He touched down in Glasgow on Friday after an emotional farewell from his family and team-mates. And he got the style memo as he was all smiles while wearing an on brand green adidas track jacket.

And he will now get the chance to compete in the Champions League with his new club as he aims to unseat Taylor as the club's first choice in the position.

Lanus have confirmed they retain a 10 per cent sell on clause as part of the deal.

They said: "Through this, we communicate the transfer of Alexandro Bernabei to Celtic Football Club, from Scotland; 10 per cent of the player's file will continue to be held by Club Atlético Lanús.

"With our shirt, Bernabei has added 88 official matches and five goals, becoming part of the youth categories of the Argentine National Team.

"To Berna, one of the many talents of the garnet quarry, we wish him the best of success in his next professional challenge."
