Alexandre Lacazette reveals he ‘didn’t like’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before Arsenal transfer

Alexandre Lacazette has revealed he “didn’t like” Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the striker joined him at Arsenal in January 2018.

Lacazette came through the ranks with hometown club Lyon before moving to north London during the summer of 2017 and had come up against Aubameyang when he played for bitter rivals St Etienne between 2011 and 2013.

While the Gabonese international boasts a prolific record across four of Europe’s five major leagues, Aubameyang has often been accused of lack of discipline.

Stripped of the Arsenal captaincy by Mikel Arteta in December, the striker was frozen out of the picture at the Emirates before joining Barcelona on a free transfer in February, where has has since scored an impressive 10 goals in 15 games.

In a candid interview with French outlet Canal TV+, Lacazette opened up on his relationship with Aubameyang, admitting he had “misconceptions” about him, although stressed he was now friends with his former teammate.

“I had some misconceptions about him,” he said.

“Before he arrived, I didn’t like him. To be honest, I’m not mates with the Aubemayang you see on Instagram.

“I’m mates with Pierre-Emerick. People don’t know Pierre-Emerick. They know Aubameyang.”
