Alexandre Lacazette gives surprise reaction to Arsenal's Premier League title charge

Former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has claimed that he isn't surprised to see his former side challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners currently lead the way with just nine games to go, sitting eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City, albeit the Citizens have a game in hand on their title rivals. That is a far cry from their fortunes last season, finishing fifth in the league following an end-of-season collapse that saw them lose two of their last three fixtures to drop out of UEFA Champions League qualification.

Lacazette then left the club in the summer, leaving for Lyon on a free transfer but the Frenchman has now said that the north Londoners drastic improvement doesn't shock him considering the ability of manager Mikel Arteta. "Arsenal? I’m not surprised," he told Foot Mercato when asked about his former side's fortunes.

"I worked with the coach so I know how well he works. I’m not surprised by the club’s success, and I’m happy for my former team-mates there."

Next up for Arsenal is a trip to Anfield, a ground they haven't won a league match at since 2012. In fact, the north Londoners have lost in all of their last six league visits to Merseyside, conceding 22 times and scoring just four in the process.

However, Jurgen Klopp's men have really struggled this season, currently sitting eighth - 30 points behind the Gunners.
