Alexander Isak talks about his 'number 10' role and reflects on Newcastle United win over Fulham

Super sub Alexander Isak popped up with the winning goal against Fulham - then admitted he knew the magic moment was destined to come his way at St James' Park.

Isak scored his first goal since coming back from a thigh injury - which sidelined him for almost four months - and paid back another slice of the £63million record fee Newcastle paid to Real Sociedad. The winner came in the 89th minute with Newcastle holding on to the three points and denting the Cottagers' 100 per cent record since the World Cup break.

Isak said after the game: "It means a lot. We needed that win to keep going in the direction we have been going in for some time. It felt great and it was always special coming on and scoring a late winner."

Isak netted after great work from Callum Wilson after Sean Longstaff and Kieran Trippier had teamed up on the right-hand side. Wilson's persistence at the back post secured a vital win.

Isak said: "I could not miss that one. I just sensed that the ball was going to go in at some point because we had some pressure on them. For us to get into the box we knew eventually the ball would bounce right and I was there at the right time."

Wilson and Isak got the chance to play together in the Premier League against Fulham with Eddie Howe already hinting it could be a sign of things to come.

Isak added: "I came on like a number 10. I have been out for some time so I have not really played with all of the guys.

"I enjoyed getting some minutes and I think we have a wide and good squad. "We can play in different ways. I feel fit, not perfect, but I am getting there and using every opportunity to get better."
