Alexander Isak 'rejected Manchester United' before Newcastle United switch

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak reportedly turned down a proposal from Manchester United before his move to Tyneside, according to Mundo Deportivo. Isak sealed his £58 million switch to the from Real Sociedad last week as the Magpies once again displayed the type of ambition the owners promised upon their takeover almost 12 months ago.

The Spanish outlet claim that while Man United did not make an official bid to Sociedad for Isak, they did put a ‘juicy’ proposal on the table to the player, but his representative agency advised him to turn the Red Devils down. Incidentally, Isak’s former side have been drawn in the same Europa League group as Man United, which would’ve seen a very swift reunion.

Isak is still awaiting the green light to make his Newcastle debut with the Sweden international yet to receive a work permit. Despite being signed in time according to Premier League rules, Isak missed the draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday because the necessary paperwork was not completed by the Home Office.
