Alexander Isak given big hint that he might start Newcastle United's next game

Eddie Howe has indicated that there are "good signs" for the future for Alexander Isak after his positive cameo against Man City.

Despite big calls from fans for Isak to start against City after they were buoyed by his substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup final, Howe left Isak on the bench and stuck with his former Bournemouth star Callum Wilson. But the England international was unable to break his duck.

Howe says he has something to think about regarding a start for Isak against Wolves, and commented: "Yeah, certainly it does. I think he's growing and learning and developing all the time.

"I was pleased with his introduction, I was pleased with all the subs' impact when they came on today. That's a good sign for the future for us."

Isak has gone seven matches without scoring a goal for Newcastle since his winner against Fulham. Isak only had eight touches against City but one of them resulted in Ederson coming under pressure and another a hanging cross for Allan Saint-Maximin who warmed the keeper's hands.
