Alexander Isak: Arsenal sent clear new message over striker transfer target

Newcastle CEO Darren Eales says the club would be “crazy” to sell Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak and they want to tie him down to a new contract.

Isak has been in brilliant form this season and his tally of 19 Premier League goals is only bettered by Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah.

Arsenal are long-term admirers of Isak and have tracked him since his days at Real Sociedad, whom he left in 2022 to join Newcastle.

The Gunners have been linked with a summer move for Isak, but Newcastle CEO Eales has revealed they have no plans to sell their star striker.

“To be clear, he’s got multi-years left,” Eales told reporters in Newcastle. “We’ll have the discussions in terms of a new deal, just like we did with Joelinton, Bruno [Guimaraes] and Anthony Gordon. That’s something we’ll approach in the summer.

“Because we were able to move a couple of players in January that weren’t really impacting on minutes on the pitch (it means) we’ve got that wish and desire to keep our key players.

“They’re all under long-term contracts. We have no intention at all of those players being moved on. We’re not under the gun or anything like that.

“As you know, we’ve got an ownership that is ambitious and wants the best for the club. So from that perspective, it would be crazy for us to consider it.

“We’re an ambitious ownership group that is looking to drive Newcastle to be sustainable, to compete for trophies and, ultimately, we want to be winning the Premier League.”
