Former England defender Alex Scott wore the rainbow-coloured ‘OneLove’ armband while working as a pundit for the BBC on the England’s World Cup opener against Iran.
England captain Harry Kane had been planning to wear the armband for the match in Qatar but the FA, and six other European nations, announced on Monday morning they would no longer be doing so after being warned by FIFA their captains would be booked.
The FA held eleventh-hour talks with FIFA and confirmed on Monday morning they could not “put players in a position where they could face sporting sanctions” and would “show our support in other ways”.
Former England defender Scott, who is working for the BBC as a pundit during the tournament, duly elected to wear the armband while working on the Iran game.
