Alex Salmond memorial order of service published – with Proclaimers set to perform

THE details of the public memorial service for former first minister Alex Salmond have been announced – and include live performances from both The Proclaimers and Dougie MacLean.

Sheena Wellington, the Scots singer who performed Rabbie Burns’s “A Man’s A Man For A That” at the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999, will also perform at the memorial service, while politicians such as David Davis, Fergus Ewing, and Kenny MacAskill will speak.

The memorial service for Salmond, the late Alba and SNP leader, is due to be held from 11am at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh on November 30. It will be streamed live on the BBC’s iPlayer.

Salmond passed away after suffering a heart attack during a conference in North Macedonia on October 12.

A private funeral service was held on October 29 in Strichen Parish Church, with arrangements made for a public memorial service at a later date.

Further details have now been released ahead of the event on Saturday.
