Alex Rae believes Rangers are still in the Scottish Premiership title race despite their current stuttering form that's mounted pressure on boss Gio van Bronckhorst.
The former Light Blues midfielder knows just how important a win at home to Aberdeen would be on Saturday to get things back on track but he is certain league leaders Celtic are going to drop more points with the gap at the top of the table currently four points. Ange Postecoglou's squad travel to Livingston on Sunday, who managed to inflict more wounds on Rangers just seven days ago by securing a draw at Ibrox.
The Hoops have already endured an upset themselves this season as they lost 2-0 at St Mirren in September. However, Rae told Grosvenor Sport that Van Bronckhorst's men have got to be ready to pounce on any slip-ups from their Glasgow rivals - starting with securing maximum points against the Dons. He said: "One thing I’ll say is that the title race isn’t over. Four points is not a big gap at this stage in the season but Rangers have obviously got to negotiate past Aberdeen at the weekend and they’re the third-best team in the league right now.
"Jim Goodwin has recruited well in the summer so that game will be massive for them. It’s a huge week for everyone concerned with Rangers Football Club. I still maintain that Celtic will drop more points and so Rangers just need to make sure that the gap doesn’t increase."
Rangers were in Champions League duty in midweek and racked up their fifth straight defeat in the competition. That means a loss to Jim Goodwin's side could really leave Van Bronckhorst on the brink.
