Alex Pereira Next Fight: 'Poatan' Faces Ankalaev At UFC 313

The Alex Pereira next fight sees the UFC light-heavyweight king defend his 205-pound belt against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. After that, ‘Poatan’ could chase greatness in a move up to heavyweight at the back end of 2025.

Alex Pereira Next Fight: When Is The UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Back In Action?

Alex Pereira is without a doubt one of the biggest names in the sport of MMA right now. There is a strong case that ‘Poatan’ is the best pound-for-pound fighter on the UFC roster right now, and it’s hard to disagree with the exception of Islam Makhachev and potentially Jon Jones.

UFC fans last saw Pereira in action at UFC 307 in Salt Lake City, once again successfully defending his UFC Light-Heavyweight Title. Aspinall faced Khalil Rountree, one of the most fearsome punchers in the 205-pound division.

Although Alex Pereira didn’t win as early as he had been doing of late, he once again won via knockout, putting in a clinical and destructive performance to retain his 205-pound strap. Now, the Brazilian aims to do the same again in his next fight in March.

Alex Pereira’s record currently stands at 12-2 in MMA, with the chance to improve that at UFC 313 as his next fight has been officially announced.

‘Poatan’ will defend his UFC Light-Heavyweight Title against the #1 ranked Magomed Ankalaev in the main event at UFC 313. Now, the light-heavyweight king is back as he aims to make a fourth successful defence of his title.

The best UK betting sites have listed the Brazilian as a favourite to beat Ankalaev, but not by much. The challenger is a very capable fighter in his own right, and could actually be a better all-round mixed martial artist that ‘Poatan’.

That being said, it’s almost impossible to back against Pereira given how dominant he has been of late inside the octagon. Once again, it’s hard to see Alex Pereira’s next fight not being another one that he win emphatically.

Could Alex Pereira’s Next Fight After Ankalaev Be Against Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall For The UFC Heavyweight Title?

In regards to Alex Pereira‘s next fight, there have been several rumours that the Brazilian could be tempted by a move to heavyweight now. The 37-year-old could be the first person in UFC history to become world champion in three different weight classes, if he was to move up to heavyweight and win the belt there.

UFC fans believe there is a strong possibility this could happen, with a proposed fight against either Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall. Pereira took to Instagram after his win at UFC 307, posting a photo in which it is clear that he is calling out Aspinall in a roundabout way.

A potential fight for UFC gold at heavyweight entirely depends on how the division plays out in 2025. The winner of Jones vs Aspinall, which will likely occur in the summer, could well defend the belt against the Brazilian at the back end of 2025 or beginning of 2026.

UFC President Dana White has hailed Pereira’s achievements of late, and has relied on him to almost single handedly carry the UFC on occasions in 2024. That being said, White has admitted he thinks a move to heavyweight is a step too far for Pereira as he would be dwarfed by the likes of Jones and Aspinall.

The best UFC betting sites in the UK would likely favour both Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall to defeat Pereira just on sheer size, but it wouldn’t be by a long way.

This just goes to show how impressive Pereira has been of late, that he has a legitimate chance of becoming the first ever three-weight UFC champion.
