Alex Neil 'takes training' ahead of becoming next Sunderland manager

Alex Neil is set to take training at the Academy of Light today ahead of his official unveiling, that's according to the latest reports.

The Preston North-End manager is on the brink of becoming the next Sunderland manager following Lee Johnson's sacking.

The 40-year-old has agreed terms with the Black Cats on deal that until the end of the season, claim reports.

The former Norwich City boss is due to take charge of the Wearsiders at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Sunderland have lost their last three games in League One, against struggling Doncaster Rovers, Cheltenham Town and Bolton Wanderers.

The Wearsiders are 11 points off the summit and leaders Rotherham United have a game in hand.

Neil will have his work cut out to ensure automatic promotion, with the Black Cats in fourth, two points behind Wigan in second, but the Latics have four games in hand.
