Alex Murdaugh's brother claims double killer 'knows more' after murdering wife and son

Alex Murdaugh's brother claims the killer "knows more than he's saying" after he was found guilty of murdering his wife and son.

Randy Murdaugh, Alex's older brother, said the disgraced South Carolina lawyer is not "telling the truth" after he shot dead his wife Maggie Murdaugh and son Paul in June 2021.

After the trial verdict, which follows on from the Netflix documentary Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, Randy has admitted he remains unsure if his brother murdered the pair as he believes there's more information out there.

He said: "He knows more than what he’s saying. He’s not telling the truth, in my opinion, about everything there.”

Randy talked of his relationship with his brother which was said to be a distant one - despite going to the same university and law school.

The brothers, who worked at the family's law firm together, did not spend time together away from work and were not close.

Randy added: "It’s not like there was some problem with our relationship, necessarily.

"We just really weren’t alike, so we didn’t do stuff together.”

He said the family supported Alex after a 2019 boating accident which saw his intoxicated son Paul, 19, fatally crash after taking out the family's fishing boat with his friends.

Randy also confronted Alex after he had stolen money from the family business, which is said to be almost $8million (£6million).

The killer confessed to Randy the fraud and also revealed his addiction to painkillers.

He told his brother he would not lie again but the lawyer failed to keep his promise after he lied about being shot on the side of the road by a stranger.

It was later revealed Alex had planned the shooting in order for his son Buster to collect his huge life insurance payout.

Randy distanced himself from the killer after the lies - the pair have not spoken in almost a year.

The brothers falling out is a stark contrast to the image Murdaugh's lawyers presented in the defence trial.

His lawyers claimed the family completely supported him and did not believe he murdered his wife and son.

Murdaugh was given two life sentences after being found guilty of the murders after the 6-week trial.

Randy said his family now wants to concentrate on helping his nephew Buster, who lost his mum and brother.

But despite the trial finishing, Randy has still been unable to think of anything else.

He said: “I hoped that after the trial, because there’s nothing more that can be presented, that I’d stop thinking about this.

“But so far, that has not been the case.”
