Rangers prospect Alex Lowry has made his case for a first-team chance to new boss Michael Beale in training - at the expense of captain James Tavernier.
Lowry has been missing from action since August when he was was on the receiving end of a horrific challenge in the Rangers B-team's win over Dumbarton, making just one appearance under Gio van Bronckhorst so far this season. However, he is not back to full fitness and is looking to make up for lost time following the arrival of Beale from QPR.
Having mainly featured for the Lowland League outfit this term while Van Bronckhorst was at the club, Beale has thrown Lowry back into the first-team picture on his second as manager. While being put through his paces in a passing drill, the 19-year-old was put under pressure by Tavernier at the Rangers Training Centre but he wouldn't be stopped.
That saw Lowry pull off a moment of magic as he flicked the ball over the head of Tavernier before continuing the drill. Beale was keeping a close eye on the piece of skill, and was picked up by the Rangers TV cameras praising the player.
Beale can be heard saying "well played, well played" as the midfielder slides the ball away. The Ibrox boss insists he wants to excite the fans with his style of play, could Lowry help him do that when the league resumes?
Fans have already dubbed the new style that has been promised 'Beale ball' on social media. They will be hoping it can rival the 'Angeball' philosophy that has led Celtic to success so far this term.
