Alex Jones calls The One Show to announce birth of baby boy Kit

Alex Jones briefly returned to The One Show on Monday night to announce the happy arrival of her son Kit.

Jones, who is currently on maternity leave, called in to chat to her co-host Matt Baker and stand-in Angela Scanlon with the wonderful news she had welcomed her baby boy last week.

“We're now a family of four,” the Welsh presenter gushed. “He's really good! He was born last Monday morning, so we've had a lovely week.

“The four of us [are] getting used to being a family of four, and introducing him to Teddy, which has really been a dream.”

Jones explained that her older boy Teddy, two, had already taken to being a big brother “like a duck to water” and was “very gentle” with the new addition, showering him with love.

However, she joked that her and husband Charlie Thomson were going to have to let Teddy down gently that his new brother will not be named Thomas, after Thomas the Tank Engine.

“Breaking the news that we're not actually going to call him Thomas is going to be quite tricky,” Jones joked.

Jones also shared the news on social media, posting a sweet picture of Kit’s tiny hands next to hers, saying that she was “besotted” with the little one.

“Little kit Thomson arrived safely and very speedily last Monday at 2.21am weighing a healthy 7lbs 3,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Teddy, Charlie and I are absolutely besotted by baby brother and are enjoying this special time as we get used to being a foursome and generally breathing in that lovely newborn smell.”

While on maternity leave, Jones will be replaced by several presenters including Scanlon and Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley who will host next month.

The One Show airs nightly at 7pm on BBC One.
