The Lionesses have made a strong start to their Euro 2022 campaign. A 1-0 victory over Austria in the opening game was followed by a 8-0 thrashing of Norway.
Alex Greenwood made her first appearance of the tournament for England against the Norwegians at the Amex Stadium - home of Brighton & Hove Albion - on Monday night. The 28-year-old came on as a second-half substitute - replacing Rachel Daly at left-back.
It is the fourth major tournament that Greenwood has played in - having represented England at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups and the 2017 Euros, where England reached three successive semi-finals. With 62 caps for the Lionesses, and a career that already stretches back more than a decade, the defender took her wealth of experience to Manchester City in 2020 - signing a three-year deal with the club.

Alex Greenwood’s club career
Greenwood was born in Liverpool in 1993. She joined Everton aged eight, progressing through the club’s Centre of Excellence and making her first team debut in August 2010 in a 6-0 win over Faroe Islands team KÍ Klaksvík Kvinnur in a Women's Champions League qualification round match.
She became Everton’s first-choice left-back a year later. She performed so well in 2012 that she was named FA Young Player of the Year at the age of 18.
After Everton were relegated at the end of the 2014 season, Greenwood joined Notts County on a two-year deal. At the start of 2016, she joined Liverpool - where she played for two years - making 44 appearances and scoring six times - while being named in the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) Team of the Year in 2015/16.
Moving to Manchester United in 2018, Greenwood captained the Red Devils as they won promotion to the WSL in their debut season as a team. Her efforts caught the eye of Lyon, with the French side taking her to Division 1 Féminine in 2019 - where she helped them secure a quadruple - including fulfilling her dream of winning the Champions League.
She signed for Manchester City in 2020 - winning the FA Women's Cup at the end of the 2019/20 season. When she signed for City, she said the club matched her ambitions.
She told Sky Sports: “I think I've come back to England at a perfect time. The league's going from strength to strength. The players who are coming over speaks for itself and I'm really excited to be a part of it.”
Alex Greenwood’s international career
Greenwood captained England at youth level and played at the 2012 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship. She made her debut for the senior team in the 2014 Cyprus Cup against Italy.
She scored her first England goal in a 10-0 win over Montenegro in September 2014 and was the youngest member of the squad when the Lionesses took part in the 2015 World Cup - where she won a bronze medal after the team beat Germany in the third place play-off.
In 2019, she was part of the England team that won the SheBelieves Cup in the United States. Later that year, she was selected as part of England's World Cup squad - when the Lionesses finished fourth.
