Alex Cox, the acclaimed director of the cult classic 'Repo Man,' is returning to the driver's seat with a new sequel that brings us back into the bizarre world of extraterrestrials and car repossession. Titled 'Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer,' the film is currently being introduced to potential buyers at the Berlin Film Festival and European Film Market. Backed by Buffalo 8 Productions, known for their work on Netflix's 'The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes,' Cox wrote the script and will also be directing the film.
Leading the cast as the protagonist Otto is Kiowa Gordon, recognized for his role as Embry Call in 'The Twilight Saga' and his work on the AMC series 'Dark Winds.' In the original 1984 film, it was Emilio Estevez who brought Otto to life. 'Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer' picks up the story after Otto boards his trusty 1967 Chevy Malibu and embarks on a journey across time and space, an adventure that has aged him precisely 90 minutes.
Alex Cox's filmography includes notable works such as 'Sid & Nancy,' which catapulted Gary Oldman's career, and the epic historical drama 'Walker,' starring Ed Harris. Cox also wrote and directed 'Repo Chick,' a film that shared some similarities with 'Repo Man,' although it was not a direct sequel.
The filmmakers promise an enthralling mix of punk energy, existential comedy, and unconventional storytelling in 'Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer.' The movie will delve into the absurd and chaotic world of repo men, bringing it into a new era dominated by nuclear brinkmanship and driverless cars.
Producing the sequel is Lorenzo O'Brien, known for his work on 'Narcos,' alongside Adam Harris Engelhard, Matthew Helderman, and Luke Taylor from Buffalo 8. Additionally, Michael Mortensen and Ram Getz from GM Management will serve as executive producers.
Adam Harris Engelhard, Buffalo 8's Head of Production, expressed his excitement about working on the sequel, stating, 'Growing up, 'Repo Man' was one of my favorite films, so to get an opportunity to work on the sequel with everyone involved is incredibly exciting.' Kiowa Gordon is represented by Clear Talent Group, GM Management, and Greenburg Glusker.
Fans of the beloved 'Repo Man' can now look forward to diving back into this peculiar universe as Alex Cox takes them on another thrilling ride filled with punk rock spirit, offbeat humor, and unpredictable storytelling.
