Alex Cochrane Hearts vs Celtic red card analysed as Dermot Gallagher delivers Ref Watch verdict

Dermot Gallagher has delivered his view on the big talking point from Celtic's win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Hoops secured the Scottish Premiership title in the capital after a 2-0 win over the ten-man hosts. Kyogo Furuhashi netted his 30th goal of the season and his 50th overall for the club while Oh Hyeong-gyu also got in on the scorning act to spark wild celebrations in the stands with thousands also making the trip to Parkhead to party late into the evening to show their appreciation to Ange Postecoglou and his champions with the boss delivering a rousing speech to the big crowd in the east end.

But the main talking point from the Sunday clash came as Alex Cochrane's yellow card for a foul on Daizen Maeda was upgraded to a red by referee Nick Walsh after being advised by VAR official Willie Collum to go to the screen for a second look at the flashpoint incident just before half-time.

It was an incident that was blasted as 'utter garbage' by pundit Michael Stewart while Steven Naismith was also slammed the decision to send of his man. Now former EPL whistler Gallagher has given his views on the incident. Speaking during his Ref Watch analysis on Sky Sports, he said: "One of my friends is a Hearts fan and he sent me a message last night saying he didn't think it was right.

"But I actually think it is a red card. The reason I think it is a red card is if you go sideways, if you watch here. Right stop there. At that point the defender is not going to catch the player. [Alex] Cochrane brings him down. He is gong to head towards goal and the keeper can't get to the ball. The law says 'will he get a shot away?'.

"I think for the referee I understand in normal play why it is a yellow card. He can't see that. When he goes to the screen and sees what I have just seen there. I just think it is obvious it is going to be a red card."
