Alex Cochrane facing Hearts two game ban as SFA could take action after red card in abandoned Almeria friendly

Hearts defender Alex Cochrane could be banned for two matches following his red card in the Spanish friendly that was abandoned after a brawl with UD Almeria.

The Tynecastle club are sweating on whether match official Javier Sánchez Carreras contacts the Spanish Football Federation to confirm the sending offs he dished out to left back Cochrane and Almeria's Rodrigo Ely just before half time in Sunday's clash on the Costa de Sol.

If the Spanish authorities are notified, they will contact the Scottish FA who would be forced to hand out a two game ban for violent conduct - meaning Cochrane would miss the matches against Kilmarnock and Dundee United when the Premiership resumes after the World Cup break.

The incident, which came as Hearts were losing a bad tempered match 1-0, was sparked by Cochrane appearing to kick out at winger Alejandro Pozo. That led to Ely racing in to forearm smash the Hearts man and the resultant melee that saw players from both sides wading in and the coaching staffs on the pitch was ended when Jambos boss Robbie Neilson took his men off the pitch and abandoned the match.

The SFA have yet to hear from their Spanish counterparts and Hearts will be hoping it stays that way.
