Alex Bregman, the talented infielder, is set to receive the final payment of his lucrative $120 million, three-year contract with the Boston Red Sox in 2046. The details of his deal, which was officially announced recently, have been revealed, shedding light on the financial structure of this significant agreement.

According to the contract specifics obtained by The Associated Press, Bregman's contract includes a $5 million signing bonus scheduled to be paid on Jan. 15, 2028. The deal features annual salaries of $35 million for the current year, escalating to $40 million in each of the subsequent two years. Notably, $60 million of the total amount is deferred, with $20 million to be paid annually. The deferred payments are slated to be completed by June 15 in each year from 2035 to 2046.

Furthermore, Bregman retains the option to opt out of the contract after the 2025 and 2026 seasons, allowing him to explore free agency once again. The Red Sox are obligated to pay varying amounts of deferred money in the coming years, with payments ranging from $2 million to $6 million annually from 2035 to 2045.

By structuring the contract with deferred payments, the Red Sox effectively reduce the average annual value of the deal for luxury tax purposes in Major League Baseball.

At 30 years old, Bregman brings a wealth of experience and success to his new team. A two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion during his nine-year tenure with the Houston Astros, Bregman concluded his previous contract with an impressive performance, hitting .260 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs. He also secured his first Gold Glove award, showcasing his defensive prowess.

While Bregman's specific role with the Red Sox has not been officially defined, there is speculation that he may slot in at second base, considering Rafael Devers has been a mainstay at third base for the team since 2017.
