Alesha MacPhail's mum speaks of 'five horrible, heartbreaking years' since murder

The mum of murdered Alesha MacPhail has posted a heartbreaking message on the fifth anniversary of her death.

Georgina Lochrane says her little girl should have been preparing to start high school this summer, and remembers her "beautiful girl" in the emotional statement on charity page Alesha's Beaming Smile.

Alesha, from Airdrie, was just six years old when was killed at the hands of teenager Aaron Campbell while visiting her dad and her grandparents on the Isle of Bute. He was later convicted of abducting her from her bed, then raping and murdering her and sentenced to a minimum of 24 years in prison.

Five years on, and Georgina shared her grief at Alesha's missed milestones, and vowed to keep her memory alive, the Daily Record reports.

Writing on the page, the 27-year-old said: "Five horrible, heartbreaking years without you. Not a single day goes by where we don't think about you or talk about you, Alesha.

"Our full world came crashing down five years to this date, you were ripped from our lives and our life hasn't ever been the same. This was your big year - you'd be finished primary and heading off to your big adventure to high school.

"You'd be turning 12 in October. Mummy had so many plans for this year for you but instead we have to celebrate your milestones in your memory now. This world is beyond cruel."

The tribute continued: "You're missed more than anything and loved beyond anything that can come close to describing it. Until mummy gets to see you, keep shining my beautiful girl."
