Alert at famous waterfall as woman threatens to jump

Fears somebody was struggling at Paisley’s waterfall provoked a massive police response including force frogmen early today.

Police units, two incident response vehicles and ambulance teams arrived at The Hamills on the White Cart Water.

A distressed woman being warmed by a blanket was later seen coming out the back of an ambulance.

Paisley detectives confirmed there was no ongoing enquiry.

The drama happened behind the Watermill Hotel where concerned staff were told a woman had threatened to leap from the falls into the water.

Police Scotland confirmed: "The person came out of the water of their own accord."

One source said: “Hopefully this lady gets the help she obviously needs.

“Fortunately she did not go into the water, but there were police divers ready to help.”
