Aleksandar Kolarov makes Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich admission about Man City

Former Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov believes Pep Guardiola is the right man to guide the Blues to Champions League glory for the first time in the club's history.

City have won a host of trophies under the Spaniard since his arrival in 2016, including four Premier League titles. However, the 51-year-old has not yet been able to win the Champions League with City.

The Blues reached the final in 2021 but suffered defeat at the hands of Chelsea. Guardiola's men looked on course to reach a second successive final last season, but lost to Real Madrid in the semi-final.

Despite this, Kolarov still believes City have the right man in charge to finally secure European glory, but admitted that his former side still have to reach the level of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

"City has the quality to challenge for all the titles," Kolarov told The National at the Emirates Palace on Thursday. "Pep has taken the team to a new level and has maintained it to become one of the top clubs in the world.

"Of course we need to work a lot to arrive where Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are, but with him, we have all the chances to achieve that."

The Serbian, who played nearly 250 games for the Blues, also backed City to make it five Premier League titles in the last six years at the end of the current campaign.

He added: "City has the best chances to win the league title again and I’m very confident they’ll do it.

"We have a great manager and a great team. We are there to win the title one more time. It will be difficult but City has quality in every line of play to win it again.

"Arsenal are a pretty good side this season. Spurs are a good side too with a very good coach [In Antonio Conte] and as always there is Chelsea and Liverpool, but I think the first place is already booked. I’m very confident of that."

City clinched the Premier League title on the final day of last season, with Guardiola's men's coming from behind to win - meaning they finished one point ahead of rivals Liverpool.
