Alejandro Garnacho sets himself challenge after Manchester United breakthrough

Alejandro Garnacho is looking to build upon his solid foundation as a Manchester United player and doesn't want to risk taking a backward step in his early career.

The 18-year-old has had to wait for his chance under Erik ten Hag and struggled at first due to attitude concerns following his integration into the first team.

Garnacho only featured once during pre-season after being punished for turning up late twice to team meetings, with both Ten Hag and Bruno Fernandes openly questioning his 'attitude' problems.

It proved to be a welcome reality check that forced Garnacho into a different approach at United, and he has immediately reaped the rewards on the pitch with two goals in his last four matches.

The Argentine teenager will be looking to take his game to another level when club football resumes, and he is grateful to Ten Hag for the opportunity he has been given.

"Erik ten Hag is a very good manager and, above all, he’s a great person," Garnacho told club media. "He always pays very close attention to us all, and helps us a great deal, especially the young players.

"I've had to keep working hard until that moment came where I was given my opportunity. For the moment, I’m making the most of the opportunities he’s giving me.

"I don’t want to take a backward step from here, I’d like to appear regularly in the team and keep going in the same way."
