Alejandro Garnacho sends message to Cristiano Ronaldo after full Manchester United debut

Alejandro Garnacho enjoyed an impressive full debut for Manchester United on Thursday night.

The youngster played 79 minutes as United easily swatted aside Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The 18-year-old was repeatedly fouled, indicating his importance to United's attacking intent. When he was replaced towards the end he earned a favourable reception from the home supporters. The match saw Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo all score as United booked their passage.

And Garnacho was quick to lavish praise on the latter, following his return to the team after his recent well-publicised indiscretion.

Ronaldo posted on Instagram post-match: "Great team effort and a good victory. We stand together. Let's go, United!" Of the many thousands to reply, Garnacho took time to credit his teammate simply writing "Idolo" along with the goat emoji.

Garnacho, who has featured in three of United's five Europa League games so far this season, earned praise from his manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman said: "I think it was a good performance from him. He did what I expect him to do. First, he deserved the chance after the last weeks. The start was difficult for him in the season. He can take players on and that's a good capability in football nowadays, especially against opponents who are defending compact."
