Alejandro Garnacho posts heartbreaking message after Manchester United FA Cup defeat to Man City

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has admitted he is “broken” after suffering defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

United came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline as a Manchester derby decided the FA Cup at Wembley. The club’s hopes of achieving a cup double were dealt an instant hit as Ilkay Gundogan’s 12-second volley left Erik ten Hag’s side needing to come from behind almost straight from kick-off.

Despite the early setback, Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot before half-time as United battled their way back into the game. City restored their lead shortly after the interval but United continued to probe and had several opportunities to get back level, particularly after Garnacho was introduced after the hour mark.

The 18-year-old proved to be a constant threat down the left and went close with a shot from distance that curled the wrong side of the post. However, that was of little comfort to the teenager, who described the pain of losing on social media.

“I am broken,” he wrote on Instagram. “People who know me know how obsessed I am with winning, and today it couldn't be.

“Probably one of the hardest days of my life, we will get up again because we are Manchester United. As he said several times, God has taught me to never give up and I promise to the fans that we will bring joy to you very soon.”

It has been a breakthrough season for the winger, who had made just two appearances for the club before the current campaign. Garnacho made 34 appearances across all competitions, clocking up five goals and five assists.
