Alejandro Garnacho has laid a blueprint for Amad to follow at Manchester United

Amad's spell on loan at Sunderland is arguably the best move he could have made to keep his Manchester United career alive.

Following a torrid time at Rangers, the Ivorian's role at Old Trafford was diminishing quickly. But after a shaky start at the Stadium of Light, Amad hit his stride and scored 14 goals in all competitions.

This form boosted his stock with Erik ten Hag and MEN Sport understands the boss will be observing him during the pre-season tour in the US before making a decision on next steps. For a career which looked to be heading downhill, Amad now has the chance to stake a United claim.

However, if he wants to capitalise on such a positive loan spell, he cannot afford to rest on his laurels. When handed the opportunity to do so, the 20-year-old will need to impress.

To do so he needs to look no further than last season's breakout star Alejandro Garnacho. Speaking after his stunning winning goal over Fulham in November, the Argentine explained what he did to put himself in the best position to catch the eye of Ten Hag.

"[You have to be ready] to go on and give everything," Garnacho told United's official website. "At home I always study the full-backs and during the game itself; during the time I’m sitting on the bench.

"So I can then go on and know where and how I need to be looking to go past them. I analyse games and also opponents when I’m about to come up against them, so that I’ve got some background on each player to be ready for the game."

Garnacho has proven how this additional work away from the pitch helped him make the big impacts which earned him more minutes on the pitch. If Amad wants the extra playing time, he would do well to follow the advice of the teenager over the course of next season.
