Emilia Jones, the 20-year-old daughter of Welsh TV presenter and singer Aled, has won at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for her performance in critically-acclaimed movie CODA.
Alongside her CODA castmates, Eugenio Derbez, Daniel Durant, Troy Kotsur, Marlee Matlin and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Emilia was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture in the coming of age comedy-drama which is on AppleTV+.
Emilia, who is also nominated for a Bafta for Best Actress this year, plays Ruby Rossi the only hearing member of a deaf family who dreams of going to Berkley University. She looked beautiful on the red carpet, pre-event, in a stunning embellished, sheer gown.
CODA is directed by Orange is the New Black writer, Sian Heder, whose mother is Welsh sculptor, Mags Harries.
Emilia has spoken about her gratitude for her nominations recently, noting how hard she worked on her role as Ruby, including training for nine months with American Sign Language.
"I'm just so grateful that people loved CODA because I did work so hard. I was 17 when we shot so I had a big, big work load for 17, so it's nice people are being so lovely," said Emilia, who is up for leading actressat the Baftas alongside Lady Gaga, Joanna Scanlan and Tessa Thompson.
"I trained for nine months with American Sign Language and had singing lessons too because I loved singing, but I'd never had a singing lesson before, but I also had to learn how to fish, so I'd wake up at 3am every morning for two weeks and we'd go out three miles at sea and catch fish for hours and hours, and the Massachusetts accent, I had to learn that too."
Emilia is the daughter of Anglesey-born singer, Aled, and his wife Claire Fossett and has had roles in Netflix's Locke & Key, Doctor Who, Utopia and Wolf Hall.
