Alec Baldwin thanks wife for 'everything' after Rust shooting charges are dropped

Alec Baldwin has praised his wife and lawyer following news he will no longer face any charges over the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins.

The actor, 65, took to Instagram to share a loving snap of him with Hilaria Baldwin as the pair smiled for the camera.

The image sees Alec hugging his wife with his eyes closed. The pair rested their heads on each other as Hilaria appeared to be sitting on his lap.

Alec also made sure to thank his lawyer Luke Nikas in the post.

The star wrote: "I owe everything I have to this woman," before putting in brackets "and to you, Luke".

Fans were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section, with one user gushing: "It’s a good day Alec. You have always had our support. You’re both very blessed with a precious family."

More of his 2.5 million followers also shared congratulatory messages, while one praised Hilaria, writing: "For better for worse, a true life partner. real love."

Alec's upload comes after Luke and Alec's other lawyer Alex Spiro released a statement to reveal the charges regarding the fatal shooting in October 2021 had been dropped.

The statement read: "We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident."

The incident in question saw the cinematographer and mother of one Hutchins killed on the set of Rust in October 2021 when Baldwin discharged a prop gun, which also injured the film's director Joel Souza.

Both Baldwin and the film’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were each initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter over the death of Ms Hutchins on the film’s Santa Fe County set.

If the charge had stuck, he could have faced a prison sentence of up to 18 months.

At the time of the charge announcement, Alec's lawyer said it represented "a terrible miscarriage of justice".

Speaking previously about the awful event, Alec, told the Chris Cuomo Project, said: "I know that every single person on the set of the film knows what happened.

"The people who are talking loudest about what happened or speculating about what happened were not on the set of the film."

When discussing the investigation, the Hollywood star continued: "The fact that this has taken so long has been quite troublesome to me."
