Aldred roaring at Brisbane under Aloisi's attack mantra

Brisbane captain Tom Aldred is a defensive rock, but says the attacking style of play endorsed by coach Ross Aloisi has made him better with the ball.

It is a mode of football the side will aim to showcase against Perth on Sunday in the A-League Men clash at Suncorp Stadium.

Aloisi enunciated his philosophy in a nutshell ahead of the clash.

"We want to play forward ... run forward. Everything we do is go forward," Aloisi said.

"I love keeping possession but I don't want to keep it just for the sake of it. I want to go forward. I want to be exciting."

The Roar have Young Socceroos striker Tom Waddingham up front and creative midfielders and wingers such as Florin Berenguer, Jay O'Shea, Nikola Mileusnic and Henry Hore to enact the coach's dictum.

Aldred said it was also having a positive impact on the defenders.

"For us as defenders I feel like we have built up from the back in our third of the pitch and we are using the goalkeeper (Macklin Freke) a lot more to build our attack," he said.

"Ultimately we have made our goalkeeper another player in possession.

"Defensively we are defending higher now so it is up to us as defenders to organise that. We call it 'ID marking'. We are making sure that because we are attacking more this year that we are switched on defensively to be ready if they transition on us.

"It is exciting football and I am sure the fans can agree."

Aldred is a self-motivated leader but says Aloisi has brought in a brand of football that had energised him.

"I am loving it. I am loving Ross as a coach," he said.

"I feel as though he has improved me, especially with the ball. That is an area of my game that can always improve.

"It is certainly a lot different to what I came from in the UK, but all the boys are loving it. We are seeing results and ultimately results matter. It is early in the season but we will continue to improve and build on what we have started so far."

Brisbane (seven points) are in sixth position on the ALM ladder but just one point outside the top four.

The Glory, in eighth place on four points, will not be pushovers.

"They have a lot of experience and are well structured, organised and have firepower. We have to be well aware what they have got," Aldred said.

"Our focus is on us and where we can improve."
