Bernie Mac’s daughter, Je’niece McCallough, has expressed her desire for actor Aldis Hodge to portray her late father in an upcoming biopic. Hodge, known for his roles in Leverage and Hidden Figures, has enthusiastically embraced the idea, stating that the opportunity is a high honor given Mac’s daughter’s endorsement.
Mac, a beloved comedian, passed away in August 2008 at the age of 50. Plans for a biopic were confirmed by John Legend’s Get Lifted production company, with McCallough endorsing Hodge as a fitting choice for the role.
Hodge, who has a background in stand-up comedy, expressed his eagerness to take on the role if offered. He emphasized his admiration for Mac’s comedic legacy and the privilege it would be to portray him on screen.
While details about the biopic remain scarce, Hodge is currently engaged in his role in Prime Video’s upcoming series, Cross, set to premiere its first season later this year. The actor praised the show’s production team, cast, and the creative vision of the series creator, Ben Watkins.
During the Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video upfront presentation, Hodge and Prime Video unveiled the trailer for Cross and announced an early renewal for a second season, highlighting the show’s potential for growth and audience engagement.
