Aldi worker issues 'golden rule' to anyone who shops in supermarkets after customer tries to outsmart checkout staff

An Aldi worker has shared the “golden rule” when it comes to packing away your shopping, and how to get the staff to slow down.

The supermarket is known for its speedy checkout service, which is said to be 40 per cent faster than other chains.

A shopper tried to outsmart the efficient nature of their checkout worker by spreading out their groceries on the belt.

After posting the video online, the shopper faced plenty of backlash, with many saying that it is a bonus to have such quick workers on the tills.

The video even caught the attention of Aldi staff, with one posting a TikTok explaining why this ‘hack’ was doomed to fail.

The worker shared a snap taken by a customer, who spaced out their shopping along the conveyer belt, seemingly forcing staff to wait for them to reach the till.

Nice idea, but it really doesn't work - as the staff member efficiently demonstrated in the viral video.

Showing a belt with items spaced apart, a worker can be seen sticking their arm out, meaning the shopping just piles up by the till.

The video debunking the viral theory racked up more than 800,000 views - and many viewers admitted they didn't agree with efforts to slow down the process.

One viewer joked: "Learn to speed pack like a grown-up."

Another said: "They have to scan fast. The faster they scan, the better - I got told this in a group interview for Aldi."

"When will people learn you pack on the shelf at the window, not the till!" added a third.

But for those who struggle, the Aldi worker said they can slow down if you request them to.

They wrote: "Can I clarify I work in Aldi and I'm proving that people's way of slowing us down doesn't work."

One customer then asked: "Is it true if the customer asked you to slow own that you have to?"

They replied: "Well you would out of courtesy, you have to adjust to every customer's needs."

So there we have it - if you need staff to slow down, simply ask them instead of spacing out your shopping. Job done.
