Aldi to create 6,000 new jobs and open 40 stores by end of year - see list

Aldi is to create more than 6,000 new roles across the UK and is planning to open 40 stores by the end of the year.

Brand new stores will be opening in places such as Norwich and Newcastle over the next few months, as well as in Huddersfield and Shrewsbury over the coming weeks.

The budget supermarket is also currently looking to fill 450 jobs across its 11 distribution centres around the UK.

Store assistants at Aldi receive a starting pay of £11.00 an hour nationally, rising to £11.90, and £12.45 rising to £12.75, within the M25.

Meanwhile, the popular supermarket also increased the starting pay for its 7,000 warehouse workers with staff receiving a wage of £13.18 an hour.

This was up from the £11.48 previously.

The wages offered to Aldi's store assistants and warehouse staff exceed the Living Wage Foundations' recommended hourly wage of £10.90.

Those interested in applying for one of Aldi's new 6,000 can apply for a position through its website.

Giles Hurley, chief executive officer of Aldi UK, said: “Demand for Aldi has never been higher as more and more people realise they can make significant savings on every shop without compromising on quality.

"It’s more important than ever that we are making it even easier for more people to shop with us – including by opening dozens of new stores.

“Our success is dependent on the amazing work that colleagues do, day in and day out, and we’re looking forward to welcoming thousands more colleagues to Team Aldi throughout 2023.”

Aldi has nearly 1,000 stores in the UK and currently employs around 40,000 people.

Aldi's popularity has grown exponentially over the last few years and particularly during the current cost of living crisis.

The german supermarket chain prides itself on groceries at the "best possible value" for customers as well as providing quality.

Aldi was voted the UK's cheapest supermarket by Which? in January of this year and has recently been voted Britain's "favourite" supermarket in a new polling from YouGov.

One of the supermarket's most notable attributes is its middle aisle Specialbuys which are replenished every Thursday and Sunday.

Aldi's Special Buys are hailed as the stuff of legends as you can buy a range of things such as air fryers, egg chairs and Jo Malone candle dupes for a very much discounted price.
