Aldi shoppers 'won't get a takeaway again' after trying £6.49 Chinese dish in air fryer

We all love a takeaway from time to time but buying your favourite dishes can be expensive, and amid the ongoing cost of living crisis, many of us have had to take a step back from scoffing down plates from our local Chinese or Indian restaurants.

If you still want to eat takeaway foods without breaking the bank, many supermarkets now offer a range of easy-to-cook dishes that are designed to mimic the dishes we might get delivered - but unfortunately, many of them don't quite taste the same as having the real thing.

While on the hunt for the perfect replacement for a takeaway, one woman has declared that one dish from Aldi is a cut above the rest, as she said it was so tasty she'll never be buying a takeaway again.

The crispy duck dish costs £6.49 (Aldi)

The woman posted on a Facebook group dedicated to fans of Aldi and said she'd picked up an oven-ready crispy aromatic half duck with pancakes from the supermarket's Ready Set Cook! range.

The product - which comes with hoisin sauce and serves two - costs just £6.49, and the woman was able to keep her costs even lower by cooking the duck in her air fryer instead of the oven.

She wrote: "Tried this tonight, absolutely divine. Did it in the air fryer and the skin was so crispy and yum.

"Won't bother getting [it] from takeaway again, tasty, cheap and you know exactly how many calories you're eating."

Other Aldi shoppers in the comments were quick to agree with the woman, with many saying the duck is a favourite in their house as they've also ditched takeaways in favour of the cheaper alternative.

One person said: "We've had this a few times, very nice."

While another added: "This is a favourite in our [house], get it most weekends."

Others said they would be eager to try it the next time they're in the mood for a Chinese takeaway.

But it's not just Aldi that offers Chinese takeaway delights, as we recently reported that shoppers at M&S have also vowed to stop spending money on takeaways after trying a new £5.50 meal.

M&S launched the Year of the Rabbit box this month to celebrate the Lunar New Year on January 22, and it contains a range of well-loved classics including chicken and black bean sauce, crispy sweet and sour chicken, Singapore noodles, egg fried rice, and vegetable spring rolls.

The box costs £11 but feeds two people, so is priced fairly reasonably at £5.50 each - and people love it.

One person wrote: "These are the best prefer them over a takeaway."

Another declared: "No need to get a takeaway now".
