Aldi customers have complained after having to throw away "smelly dinners" that taste like "mud".
The budget retailer is a favourite with a growing number of fans, as the cost of food continues to soar in the UK. But one customer took to Facebook to vent after being left "not very happy" with having to put her "whole dinner in the bin".
Posting in a group for Aldi shoppers, the woman said: "Just cooked dinner and it has a funny taste to it! Smelled the jars of the sauce and it has a funny smell to it. Not very happy that the whole dinner [is] in the bin. Only bought them yesterday and date is 2024".

The woman then asked the more than 250,000 group members if any other shoppers had had the same issue. Within a number of hours, she was inundated with replies.
Many fellow Aldi customers said they had also noticed an offensive taste or smell to its Cucina bolognese pasta sauce. One Facebook user said: "Totally ruined my lasagne, will not be buying it again, none of us could eat it".
Another said: "My daughter loves this sauce for bolognese. I made this Saturday and we both couldn't eat it for that exact reason it had a awful taste to it", while a third added: "Me, it tastes like mud! I wasted a whole meal yesterday as I didn’t realise until I’d put it in."
A fourth said: "My son had this tonight and said it tasted weird so I tried it and it was awful!", while a fifth added: "Tasted like sick".
However, dozens of other Aldi customers also said they'd encountered no problems with the sauce. One said: "I use this all the time and it’s fine for me", while a second said: "Always use this, no issues". A third said: "I like this sauce, maybe it's your taste buds?" and a fourth said: "I buy this regularly and never had an issue before".
An Aldi spokesperson told the ECHO: "Our Cucina Bolognese pasta sauce is incredibly popular, and complaints of this nature are extremely rare. We would encourage any customer who is not fully satisfied with this product to return it to their local Aldi store for a full refund.”
