Aldi shoppers issued 'do not eat' warning amid salmonella fears in some sandwiches

Aldi shoppers have been warned not to eat some of its sandwiches amid concerns they could be contaminated with salmonella. The bacteria can be serious in people with symptoms including fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps.

The supermarket giant has warned customers about four of its Eat + Go sandwiches. They are all Chicken & Bacon Caesar Wraps with us by dates of May 11 and 12. They are both the single and triple pack sizes.

In its recall notice it tells people the affected batches have the product code of 20236 and 86755. It adds: "We are recalling these products due to the possible presence of salmonella.

"Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given." It adds: "We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.

It lists the affected products as Chicken & Bacon Caesar Wrap use by May 11 and May 12 and Chicken & Bacon Caesar Wrap Triple use by May 11 and May 12. It adds shoppers can to go to www.aldi.co.uk for further information.

The Food Standards Agency has also issued a recall notice warning people about the product. It says: "Action taken by the company Aldi is recalling the above products.

"Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

"Our advice to consumers If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the nearest store for a full refund."
