Aldi shoppers have been left scratching their heads after a discovery about one of the retailer's latest Specialbuys. The kitchen product is selling at £19.99 but shoppers say it's 'pointless' after revealing it can't be used for the purpose for which it was designed.
The pumpkin ceramic casserole dish has gone on sale just in time for Halloween. The glazed product looks fabulous and the stoneware bowl has a sizeable 2.2L capacity. However, it has one major flaw.
Billed by Aldi as being the ideal casserole dish to cook up "a tasty feast" for Halloween, the product comes in either orange or cream. And while the base is oven safe up to 230 degrees, the lid can't go in the oven at all. After posting about the dish on its Instagram page, shoppers had plenty to say about the product.

Aldi wrote: "Can you really call say Autumn’s your favourite season if you don’t have a Pumpkin Shaped Casserole Dish? No, didn’t think so. Sort it out ASAP and get yours online now or in store Sunday."
One shopper replied: "Would have loved the casserole dish until I found out that part isn't oven safe! Seems pointless." Another added: "Sadly the lid cannot go in the oven," while a third wrote: "Isn't the metallic bit on the lid going to cause havoc in the oven?" And another agreed: "The lid can't even go in the oven so a bit pointless."
Not everyone was disappointed. One shopper said: "This is actually so cute though." While another suggested: "Saw this and thought of you. For sweeties storage perhaps if lid can't go in oven!" Someone else added: "omg I actually need it!"
Reviews from shoppers also pointed out the failing. One reviewer wrote: "Although the product is super adorable it is not a casserole dish more a serving pot. My husband purchased me this from the store, I was so happy until I unboxed it. Problem 1 the lid does not sit on the pot correctly . Problem 2 the lid cannot be put in the oven or microwave so the contents will be spitting while cooking. Unfortunately he also threw away the receipt before I could tell him it needed to be returned as not fit for purpose. Do not purchase."
Another review read: "Purchased online. The casserole lid is not oven proof so I returned to store today. Expensive for not being fit for purpose and only can be used as a serving dish."
Aldi responded to comments on its website saying: "Thanks for the review. We're sorry to learn that you weren't completely satisfied with your product as this is never our intention. We will ensure that your comments are fed back to the relevant department for future review."
