Aldi selling a kettle and toaster that looks like Smeg for more than £100 less

Homeowners can get matching retro-style kitchen appliances at a lower price as Aldi are stocking a dupe of a much loved brand. It’s no secret that the German retailer takes fairly heavy inspiration from other brands, and this kettle and toaster are a dead ringer for Smeg.

Smeg are one of the leading retailers for white goods and kitchen appliances, with their vintage style fridges, toasters, microwaves and more costing a pretty penny.

But now, there are a couple of Aldi Specialbuys that could see shoppers achieve the look for a lot less. Like, more than £100 less.

Aldi’s Cream De'Longhi Argento Toaster comes in at £44.99 and can toast four pieces of bread at a time. It’s most similar to the SMEG 50's Retro Style four-Slice Toaster, which retails at £189 in Currys.

The newly launched Specialbuy is available to pre-order, expected to be dispatched at the end of May. Aldi said: “Create crisp, clean and delicious toast with the Cream De'Longhi Argento Toaster. Enjoy the feeling of an al fresco breakfast in a summer garden from your very own kitchen.”

The four-slice toaster has electronic controls and six progressive browning levels so that you can enjoy your toast exactly how you like it. It also offers a reheat and defrosting function, too.

Shopper Tim Dorset rated the toaster four stars, and wrote: “Good toaster and ideal for my family at breakfast. Looks great and I thought it was good value for money. Everyone at home is happy with it.”

Maximus added: “I bought the De’Longhi Argenti toaster from Aldi after doing a price comparison and they came out on top.I am highly delighted with the product. With a multiple heating range it toasts perfectly every time.”

The £190 Smeg version also offers six different browning levels and has self-centering racks for even toasting, with extra-wide slots for chunky bread. It also has a handy high-lift eject function so you can avoid burning your fingers.

Also in the Aldi range is the online exclusive Cream De'Longhi Argento Kettle , also £44.99. The retro style kettle has a built-in anti-scale filter, easy read water level indicator and rotating swivel base for easy handling.

Aldi said: “Get set for a delicious brew with the Cream De'Longhi Argento Kettle. With this electric kettle's cord-free convenience, enjoy a perfect hot beverage and the feeling of an al fresco breakfast in a beautiful garden. The built-in anti-scale filter reduces water impurities to help keep the drinks scale free, plus the filter is completely removable for easy cleaning and maintenance.”

It’s around £105 cheaper than the similar SMEG Jug Kettle , which boils up to six cups of water. Currys added: “Quality Italian design with a retro look gives you a kettle that works effectively whilst also adding aesthetic charm to your kitchen counter. A stainless steel body means it's sturdy and durable too.”

The Aldi dupe has received mixed reviews online though, with a 50/50 mix of one and five star reviews. LH 22 said: “Looks lovely but so unbearably loud.” while Giri added: “It heats the water ok but is very noisy and it rattles as if it's boiling a kettle full of nuts and bolts.”

But ‘bumblebee’ loved theirs, writing: “Love my new Delongi kettle feel like I’ve got a really great deal.”
