Aldi releases new Christmas advert starring Marcus Rashford and Kevin the Carrot

Family favourite Kevin the Carrot is officially back as Aldi has just launched their full length Christmas advert and it features Manchester United Footballer Marcus Rashford as the voice of a radish.

The popular supermarket's festive advert premiered across Aldi's socials earlier this morning and will also make it's TV debut later on this evening.

A charming take on the Dickensian-style classic "A Christmas Carol", the Christmas Carrot TV advert pairs up everyone's favourite carrot with a brand new nemesis, the Christmas loathing Ebanana Scrooge.

In the minute and a half long festive advert, viewers are introduced to a medley of fruit and vegetable characters - including Marcus Radishford, which is voiced by the England striker, Marcus Rashford, as well as Tiny Tom, Peas and Goodwill and Kevin’s Dickensian family.

The heart warming tale see's long-term Aldi mascot Kevin going on a Christmas adventure to help old Ebanana Scrooge remember all the good things about Christmas, as they go on an adventure together to discover all things festive.

Of course, it's Christmas, so there's a happy ending to the tale as old Ebanana Scrooge happily sheds his old skin and promises to be better in the future.

For Aldi, they have said that the moral of their festive advert this year is to remind everyone of the 'true meaning' of Christmas and to encourage everyone to 'be kind to one another.'

In the spirit of Christmas goodwill, Aldi has launched the advert as part of a seasonal partnership with Marcus Rashford to donate 1.8 million meals to families in need this festive season.

Aldi also launched a two year partnership with children’s charity Barnardos in October 2020 with the goal of raising €1 million for vulnerable young children across Ireland.

The partnership is supporting families in need by raising vital funds for their Early Years and Family Support Services, including providing children with healthy breakfasts, hot meals and nutritious snacks as well as vitally needed emotional support services.

Rita Kirwan, Marketing Director at Aldi Ireland, said: “A Christmas Carrot by Charles Chickens’ is inspired by arguably the most famous classic Christmas tale of all time, our story centres around a banana named Ebanana Scrooge. Scarred from an early childhood experience when he was rejected by Santa, he doesn’t like Christmas. In fact, he hates it.

So he sets out to spoil everyone else’s festive fun too. Will he succeed? Or will he finally discover his true Christmas spirit?

This campaign takes us on his journey, capturing the seasonal sense of kindness, peace and goodwill.

We hope the campaign will remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas and how important it is to be kind over the festive period. We are committed to achieving our proposed target of €1million for our charity partner Barnardos and would encourage everyone to support by texting ‘KIDS’ to 50300 to donate €4 to help support a vulnerable child this Christmas!”

Aldi's festive A Christmas Carrot advert will debut on TV screens across Scotland at 7:15pm Thursday, November 11 on ITV during a break for Emmerdale.
