Aldi releases 'Fitbit for pets' but shoppers are all saying the same thing

Aldi has released a new Specialbuys product geared towards pet owners, and many shoppers online have all had the same thought.

The budget retailer is known to sell unique and unusual products as part of the range, and it's new Petkit Activity & Sleep Monitor is no different.

According to Aldi's website, the device is "designed with advanced motion sensor technology so you can track your pet's activities" 24 hours a day.

It allows owners to keep an eye on their dog or cat's sleep routine, as well as the calories they consume, in an effort to keep them fit and healthy.

The listing also states that the product alerts owners to "the mood" that their four-legged friends are in.

The bargain giant shared news of the latest Specialbuys item on its Instagram account, writing: "Are they sleeping while you’re eating? Drinking from their fountain? Or wide awake all night long? Put the questions to test with our Pet Activity Monitors, available online and in store now."

Before long, the post had attracted more than 600 likes and dozens of comments from pet owners sharing their thoughts.

Some were enthusiastic about the product, with one writing: "Omg! I want".

"100% buying," a second commented.

Other users noticed the familiarity to a similar device available for humans.

"Fitbit for pets," one said.

A second agreed: "It's like a Fitbit".

However, many dog and cat owners in the comments agreed that the Activity & Sleep Monitor would not be useful on their own "lazy" pet .

One Instagram user wrote: "I wonder what ours would say… sleeping all day!"

"Wonder how much the dogs sleep a day," a second similarly shared.

"He wouldn’t be doing a lot anyway," a third commented after being tagged by another user.

Another joked: "The vast majority of the time it would say ‘too lazy to move'".

A fifth posted: "Would literally be sleep, eat, repeat "

After being asked by a different Instagram user to purchase the device, another stated: "I’m guessing you want an accurate measure of how lazy he is?"

"Jesus we’d think she was dead," a seventh jested.

An eighth agreed: "The tracker would start to think its stopped working"

The Petkit Activity & Sleep Monitor costs £35.99 and is available in Aldi stores and online here.
