Aldi is at it again as the budget supermarket poked fun at a shop that was apparently selling McVitie's chocolate digestives for an eye-watering £5.39.
Known for never missing a chance to tease, Aldi’s social media team were quick to respond when the No Context Brits Twitter page spotted the case of daylight robbery – simply replying ‘Belmont Chocolate Digestives: 69p’. It was, of course, a reference to the supermarket's own brand and - assuming the picture was not doctored - the considerable price difference to the biscuits in the original tweet.
The taunt sparked various follower responses such as "Shots fired", “I genuinely think the reason I still have Twitter is just so I can check @AldiUK tweets. Never a dull day" and “Even Aldi be trolling”.
The cost of living crisis has seen substantial rises in the cost of food and drink. The cost of staples has increased considerably, although supermarkets have recently started cutting the prices of some items, such as milk, bread and butter.
