Aldi May bank holiday 2023 opening times: See if your nearest store is open this weekend

Aldi shoppers will want to know when the supermarket will open this bank holiday weekend.

This coming Monday (May 1) is the early May bank holiday.

For many people, this means an extra day off work and a three-day weekend to enjoy.

But not everyone will be off work this Monday - and Aldi shoppers will be pleased to know its stores will remain open, although under shorter hours.

Aldi has more than 990 stores. You can use its online store finder tool to locate your nearest branch by entering your postcode.

We explain what you need to know ahead of this bank holiday weekend.

When is Aldi open over the early May bank holiday?

Aldi stores are normally open between 8am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, across England, Wales and Scotland.

On Sundays, you'll find shops are typically open 10am until 4pm, or 11am until 5pm, in England and Wales.

Trading hours are different in Scotland, where most Aldi stores open 9am until 8pm on Sundays.

The supermarket has confirmed its shops will be open as normal under these times this Saturday (April 29) and Sunday (April 30).

But on Monday (May 1) when there is the bank holiday, stores in England and Wales will close slightly earlier than usual.

Aldi supermarkets will be open until 8pm on May 1 in England and Wales. Stores in Scotland will be open until 10pm as usual.

Its change in hours for the bank holiday comes after Aldi revealed plans to open 40 new stores over the next year, creating 6,000 new jobs.

The discount retailer also released a list of where it wants to open 30 of them.

Aldi is looking for freehold town centre or edge-of-town sites that are around 1.5 acres and can accommodate a 20,000 square foot store with around 100 parking spaces.

Ideally, each location would be near a main road with good visibility and access, with priority locations listed below.

The supermarket offers a finder’s fee for agents who recommend a site, which is either 1.5% of a freehold price or 10% of the first year’s rent for leasehold sites.

Aldi also shared an email address for those who want to recommend a site that may fit its requirements.
