Aldi launches school uniform range starting from 99p - but how do rivals compare?

Aldi has announced the return of its popular back to school range with prices starting at just 99p - but how do the other major supermarkets compare?

Although the majority of schools have yet to even break up for the summer, many parents are thinking about the cost of uniforms for the next school year.

Last month, the budget supermarket chain Aldi announced that its school uniform bundle would be frozen at 2022 prices so would cost parents just £5.

Today Aldi has announced its entire range, which includes polo shirts, skirts, trousers, shoes, lunchboxes and more, with prices starting at just 99p.

The majority of UK supermarkets are now stocking the school uniform basics.

As more and more parents are looking to grab a bargain on school uniform costs how does Aldi's range compare to other supermarket chains?

The Mirror has compiled a full list of what prices supermarkets are selling their school wear for and the deals they have introduced.

Most UK supermarkets sell the basic school uniform items (Aldi)

Aldi

From Thursday, July 6, Aldi will be launching its entire school uniform range and will be bringing back its £5 school uniform bundle.

Aldi’s school uniform bundle includes two polo shirts, one sweatshirt, and a choice of trousers or a pleated skirt.

The prices for these pieces don't change depending on the size which means you can dress your little ones as well as your bigger ones for the same price.

However, Aldi has said the deal comes under its Specialbuy ranges which means once it's gone - it's gone.

What's included:

  • 1x sweatshirt – £1.50
  • 2x polo shirts – £1.75
  • 1x skirt – £1.75
  • 1 x trousers – £1.75

Asda

As of writing, Asda has not announced an official deal on its school uniforms this year but you can still get school uniform items for children aged two up to 16 years.

Asda is selling school uniform items both in store at George and online and prices start from as little as £1.50.

Through our research, the cost of uniforms at Asda were:

  • 2x polo shirts – £2.50 - £5.50
  • 2x sweatshirt – £5 - £12.50
  • 2x skirts – £7 - £8
  • 2x trousers – £7 - £14

For both skirts and trousers, you can buy just a single item which is around the same price.

Price does also change depending on the size you are buying.
