Aldi launches hot cross bun so big that woman with world's largest mouth can't eat it

As Easter draws closer, the shelves in supermarkets are being stocked with hot cross buns.

These days the humble treat comes in a range of flavours - from traditional to Marmite and cheese, blueberry, as well as apple and cinnamon.

And it seems you can now also get hot cross buns in different sizes.

If you're feeling incredibly peckish, then you'll want to head to Aldi as they will be launching the biggest ever supermarket hot cross bun - which is as big as a human head.

Set to hit stores on March 27, the Specially Selected Giant Brioche Hot Cross Bun will cost £3.49 and measures eight inches while weighing 600 grams.

The hot cross bun is so big that even the woman with the world's largest mouth has found herself unable to eat it.

Samantha Ramsdell, who has a mouth spanning 2.56 inches, recently attempted to get her chops around the treat - and was unsuccessful.

She filmed herself taking on the challenge and shared the clip with her 2.9 million TikTok followers.

In the video, Samantha can be seen excitedly comparing Aldi's giant new hot cross bun to a normal-sized one, before attempting to fit the whole thing in her mouth in one bite.

The social media sensation has previously gone viral by consuming a whole sandwich in one mouthful, so the pressure was certainly on for the Guinness World Record holder.

But despite a valiant effort (and several attempts), Samantha was unable to eat Aldi’s new hot cross bun in her mouth in one bite.

Samantha said: "I can­ fit an entire apple in my mouth and wanted to see if I could take things to the next level, but this hot cross bun is so big, it defeated me!

"Despite failing the challenge, I really loved the taste. The bun is super buttery and delicious with loads of juicy fruit – one to tell my American pals about for sure!"

The ginormous hot cross bun is four times the size of a standard bun and is packed with all the warming spices, sweet fruits and glazes you’d expect in a jum­bo-sized serving.

Aldi advises shoppers to toast it under the grill and slather it with butter or add some Nutoka Hazelnut Chocolate Spread (£1.09, 400g) if they fancy.

The new Specially Selected Giant Brioche Hot Cross Bun joins Aldi’s full range of Hot Cross Buns on offer this Easter, including exciting new flavours, Strawberries and Cream and Cheddar Cheese and Caramelised Onion.

The giant hot cross bun is available in UK Aldi stores and online from 27th March.
