Aldi issues important change for anyone who buys semi-skimmed milk

Aldi has shared a message of change to any customer who buys semi-skimmed milk from the discount retailer.

The supermarket has decided to scrap the classic green bottle tops included on its products, instead opting for clear caps in a bid to further improve recyclability and reduce its carbon footprint.

The trial, in collaboration with Muller hits stores in the North West this month - and if successful, it could be rolled out across the United Kingdom.

Birmingham Live report that an additional 60 tonnes per year of recycled High-Density Polythene (rHDPE) could be turned back into food-grade packaging through the move.

Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, Richard Gorman, said: We know it’s becoming increasingly important to our customers that their everyday products are environmentally-friendly, and we are constantly reviewing ways to become a more sustainable supermarket.

“By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging.”

The move is the latest in Aldi's efforts to increase recyclability with regards to products across the board, aiming to have 50 per cent of their plastic packaging made from recycled resources by 2025. Always striving to reduce their carbon footprint, Aldi also have a section of their official website dedicated to informing the general public about recycling.

Here, you can find many helpful resources and hacks to help you recycle products properly.
