Aldi is the latest supermarket to join the Too Good To Go food waste app as part of a new trial.
Too Good To Go lets shoppers purchase “Magic Bags” of products that are damaged or approaching their use-by date.
The trial will run in seven Aldi stores across South Yorkshire with the “Magic Bags” costing £3.30 each.
To order a bag, you’ll need to use the Too Good To Go app, which is free to download.
You’ll then need to find your nearest Aldi store - providing it is one taking part in the trial - and select your bag.
You don’t get to choose what food is in your bag, as it depends on what is available on the day - but the products will be worth at least £10.
There are usually only a set number of bags available each day, which means you might need to be quick to get one.
Aldi is running a five-week trial with the app, which began on July 25.
The stores taking part in the scheme are:
- Lea Road, Gainsborough DN21 1AF
- 89-105 Carolgate, Retford DN22 6EH
- Littlefield Road, Dinnington S25 2AF
- Newbridge Hill, Louth LN11 0JT
- Drakehouse Way, Sheffield S20 7HT
- Scrooby Road, Harworth DN11 8JT
- 81 Park Hill, Swallownest, Sheffield S26 4UN
Liz Fox, corporate responsibility director at Aldi UK, said: “Tackling food waste has never been more important, both for the sake of the planet and to support people looking for the best possible value on their groceries.
“This trial will show us whether Too Good To Go can help us make better use of food that is nearing the end of its life while also giving customers the chance to enjoy our products at even more amazing prices than usual.”
Too Good To Go partners up with retailers and smaller, independent shops to sell its "Magic Bags" of food that would otherwise be thrown out at the end of the day.
So as well as keeping more money in your pocket, you’re also helping to save the planet.
Other big name shops that are already on the Too Good To Go app include Marks and Spencer, Greggs and Costa Coffee.
The Mirror recently reported on how one bargain hunter managed to get £60 worth of food for just £19 by purchasing "Magic Bags".
Dominika Bien, 33, a business mentor from London, said some of the food she purchased included £20 of sushi for £6.78 and £8 of Greggs produce for £2.59.
