Aldi hit back after Pizza Cutter error leaves shoppers peeling

Shoppers looking to add to their kitchen drawer of gadgets were left scratching their heads after an blunder at a popular supermarket, but the retailer was quick to respond to comments and the response was perfect.

After a shopper posted an image on Twitter showing two identical kitchen tools in their local Aldi store with each titled on the product packaging as doing different jobs, the retailer has responded with a witty reply.

The shopper spotted the items - one labelled a peeler, the other a pizza cutter - and captioned the post "Is it a pizza cutter or a peeler? It can't be both, surely." The social media user tagged in the retailer hoping for a reply to the question. And Aldi didn't disappoint.

Responding via its official Twitter account, the Mirror noted: "Aldi has shared a witty response after being mocked for selling a pizza cutter and vegetable peeler that look exactly the same... people lined up to poke fun at the designs, as the pizza cutter more closely resembled a peeler than a traditional wheel-shaped tool."

Replying to the post Aldi wrote: "A real chef is never restricted by his tools." The comical response racked up over 13,000 likes and hundreds of retweets. And fellow customers joined in the fun.

One person added: "A pizza peeler - it's what I've always wanted." And Aldi retaliated: "Finally, I don't need to spit out the pizza skin anymore." When another customer joked that they cut their pizza with a potato masher, Aldi quipped: "Mashed pizza is my favourite!”

And after one shopper said they have seen people "cut pizza with scissors," Aldi replied: “I've seen someone just fold one over and eat it like a sandwich!"

The supermarket chain confirmed that both items were peelers and that customer comments would be passed on to the store to feed back to suppliers".

Aldi customer service rep Diarmiad told the Mirror: "I tried to think of a witty reply but it just led to me peeling the toppings off a pizza and slicing a carrot with a pizza cutter."
