Aldi has donates 1000 activity books to The Boghall Drop In Centre

Supermarket giant Aldi has donated 1000 activity books to The Boghall Drop In Centre in Bathgate to help keep children who are most in need entertained during the school holidays.

The books, which will be shared with families in and around West Lothian, include games, activities and recipe ideas for kids, with the supermarket also donating a selection of snacks alongside.

The initiative is part of Aldi’s partnership with community giving platform Neighbourly, which sees the supermarket donate surplus food from all its stores in West Lothian throughout the year to those in need.

Recent research from Neighbourly found that 90 per cent of local causes have seen demand to provide activities for children increase in the last year, with everyone agreeing that the cost-of-living crisis is impacting children’s access to items like books and toys.

The Boghall Drop In Centre in Bathgate was established in 2004 with the aim of providing the local community with access to much needed resources. The charity has worked in partnership with neighbourly for over five years. The charity delivers a wide range of services and it has a community shop that aims to reduce the cost of food and reduce food waste.

Denise, a food co-ordinator from The Boghall Drop In Centre said: “The cost of living means school holidays place additional strains on families. These activity packs from Aldi mean that we are able to raise food awareness and give some exciting and fun activities for the children to participate in over the week”

Liz Fox, Corporate Responsibility Director at Aldi UK, added: “We want to support local communities in any way we can, and we hope these activity books will help to keep children in West Lothian entertained over the school holidays.”
