Aldi giving thousands of workers pay rise as hourly rate goes up to £13.18

Aldi has confirmed that thousands of its employees will be receiving another pay rise that will take place within the next couple of weeks.

The budget supermarket chain has said that around 7,000 of its warehouse and distribution centre workers will be receiving their third pay rise since 2021 that will see them paid an extra 20%.

Set to come into effect from February 1, it will see the hourly rate increase from £11.38 to £13.18 - far exceeding the National Living Wage that is £10.90 an hour.

The latest pay rise comes after Aldi recently reviewed its pay for store assistants last month which saw them increase the pay by 90p to £11.90 an hour nationally, and £12.45 rising to £12.75, within the M25.

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "Just as we promise our customers that we will do all we can to support them, we are equally committed to supporting our amazing Aldi colleagues – as we remain the highest-paying supermarket in the UK.

"This announcement recognises the hard work and contribution our colleagues make in serving communities across the country and it’s down to them that we are able to ensure our customers can access fresh affordable food, every single day."

Aldi is the first supermarket to commit to paying all its store staff at least £11 and the latest increase means that it holds its title as the UK's best paying supermarket.

It is also the only supermarket to currently offer its staff members paid breaks, which is worth an additional £871 a year for the average store colleague.

Additionally, Aldi has also introduced up to two days paid leave per cycle of fertility treatment to support any colleagues on a fertility journey.

Aldi's commitment to its staff members has seen the chain receive numerous accolades including placing ninth in the Times Top 100 Best Graduate Employers in 2022 and being named Emloyer of the Year at the Grocer Gold Awards 2022.
