Aldi employee shares how to keep food prices down with three simple tips

An Aldi employee has shared some top tips to reduce waste, which in turn could help shoppers keep the prices of their groceries down.

Supermarkets are currently experiencing empty shelves, with industry experts expecting weeks to pass before supplies return to normal. According to the supermarket worker, "so much" food is left lying around the store and ultimately goes to waste, which could make it even harder for shoppers to get a hold of groceries amid supply issues.

The Aldi worker posted advice on reducing waste - which will help the store keep its prices down - on the popular Facebook page Aldi Shoppers UK, reports the Echo.

The first tip, according to the employee, is to always shut open doors when shopping. They said that energy prices are "crazy" and keeping the freezer doors shut will help to reduce costs for the retailer.

The second tip is to not place chilled food in the freezer in exchange for a frozen item, as it may spoil the food.

The third piece of advice is to not "dump" any meat or other chilled food around the shop, as it results in food waste.

The social media post has over a thousand likes and 200 comments, with many agreeing that some shoppers do not treat their local stores with enough respect.

One person said: "Went to our local store the other day where a man dropped some garlic bread on the floor and kicked them to the side. My 6-year-old went and picked them up and put them back."

Another commented: "Totally agree, if people decide they don’t want something at least put it back in a chilled/frozen area, not on the end of a till or tell the cashier so it can be put back. Prices are going up everywhere whether it’s food, clothing, or other goods."

A spokesperson for Aldi said: "We work hard to keep our operating costs down so that we can keep our prices low and protect our customers from inflationary pressures as much as we can.

"This is why shoppers will always find high-quality products at the lowest prices at Aldi."
